Opened in 1905, the zoo was revamped to a high standard in the 1990s and contains many different sections, as well as great gardens, cafes and restaurants. There is a reptile house, dolphin and sea lion shows, exotic birds, Little Farm, amusement park and much more. A cable car operates to take you round the zoo and garden. With more than 2,000 animals of 400 species, there is plenty to interest the entire family. One of the bizarre features is the dogs’ cemetery complete with tombstones. The zoo is actively engaged in education programmes for children.
