Biscoitos boasts a small wine museum, opened in 1990 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the wine-producing factory of Francisco Maria Brum. By bringing the ‘Verdelho’ grape to the island, the immigrant from Flanders played an important role in the revival of the viticulture industry in this area during the 19th century. The museum presents the different stages of wine production, from the vines surrounded by square beds (“curraletas”), to the wine press and storage in wooden barrels, as well as displaying ancient utensils and tools. Visitors to the museum should make sure to enjoy the views offered by the Belvedere.
