In the new part of Vila Nova do Corvo, which extents towards the tiny inter-island airport in the west, there – behind the runway – stand three old, but working windmills. These are the island’s landmarks because of their unique design. They look very different to those on the other islands of the archipelago because of their triangular wings, which, before electricity came to the island, were covered with canvas. The style is similar to that employed by the Moors on the mainland of Portugal.
