Just off the Rua Ferreira Borges the restored 12th century Arco de Almedinais marks the boundary of the old city and beyond this, up the steps, is the Torre de Anto which houses an arts and crafts museum. Take the Rua dos Coutinhos and you will reach the cathedral square and from there the Rua Borges Carmeira to the Machado Castro Museum; the view inside from the Renaissance balcony is worth a deviation. The steep narrow streets are home to students. Take the Couraça dos Apostolós and further ahead you will find the Porta Ferréa , the University entrance.
