In 1306, D. Dinis ordered fortifications to be built around the town of Évora-Monte. Seen from a distance, the medieval walls seem to be suspended in midair. Over the centuries, the settlement progressively lost its importance and power, and the municipality was extinguished in 1855. The lands were distributed between Estremoz, Évora, Arraiolos and Redondo. Within the walls is a village made up of just two quiet streets. There are three restaurants within the walled village. The Serra da Ossa and a never-ending mass of cork oaks and olive trees provide the backdrop for this beautiful trip back in time.
