The name of Vista Alegre is synonymous with fine porcelain. The factory was first opened in 1824 making unglazed porcelain and the museum, which was built in 1920, traces both the history of the company, and of porcelain production in Portugal. Of particular interest are the exhibits of services from the era of splendour (1836-1868), designed by the famous French portrait artist Victor Rousseau, the commemorative pieces and those signed by leading figures from the field of art. Crystal glass is also on display. Intriguingly, items produced in test runs sit side by side with priceless end products.
