The Viseu Town Hall lies on the west side of the Praça da República, also known as the Rossio. It is a building from the second half of the 19th century and has a number of interesting features internally. There is a majestic granite staircase and tiled panels depicting the town’s history. The painted ceilings are by the local artist Almeida e Silva (1864-1945). In the very pleasant Republic square there is a long blue and white tiled mural portraying further scenes of country life.
