Northeast of Arraiolos, nestling in the stunning Alentejo countryside, is the picturesque village of Vimieiro. The village has a particularly noteworthy parish church with battlements, one of the fortified churches from bygone days. A further attraction is the former palace of the Earls of Vimeiro, dating from the 18th century. This palace is surrounded by beautiful gardens which contain an interesting obelisk. A short distance outside the village is the unusually shaped chapel of the Ermida de Stanto António.
