Vimeiro Spa, said to date back into antiquity, is located about 17 km northwest of Torres Vedras. Here in 1808, during the Peninsular War, the British under General Arthur Wellesley, defeated the French commanded by Major-General Jean-Andoche Junot, at the Battle of Vimeiro. The spa water is chlorinated, calcic, bicarbonated, sodic and magnesian with a pH level of 7.1 and a temperature of 26 ºC. It is recommended for the treatment of diseases of the circulatory system, digestive system, respiratory system and skin diseases. Facilities for the disabled, accommodation in season and a full range of leisure activities are all available.
