The heart of Vilamoura is the marina, which is enormous and home to some very glamorous vessels. A number of boats run excursions along the coast towards Lagos. Big game fishing is also available for those who have an interest in it. In 1993 a boat from Vilamoura caught the world’s largest recorded black marlin and it is displayed on the dockside. The waterfront is brilliant for wandering around day or night with several cafes and bars. Either side of the marina are sandy beaches where famous people-watching is a favourite activity.
