Vila Nova da Barquinha is located 9.5 km west of Constância, by the side of the River Tagus in an extremely green and fertile valley. It is a picturesque town with an attractive park and the second oldest bullring in Portugal. The Festa do Rio e das Aldeias (Festival of the River and Villages) takes place, on both sides of the river, in the nearby villages of Tancos and Arripiados. Just 4.5 km to the northwest, the façade of the 16th century parish church of Atalaia, is considered one of the best examples of the Renaissance style in Portugal.
