Located about 35 km northeast of Tomar, the small town of Vila de Rei is in the centre of Portugal. On the Serra de Milriça peak, just northeast of the town, at a height of 600 metres, a pyramid has been built to mark the geodesic centre. This site also offers a spectacular panoramic view of the region and has a small museum. In the town, the Parish Church and the Misericórdia Chapel are worth a visit, whilst to the southwest is the curious Penedo Furado (literally pierced boulder) viewpoint. The St Michael Castro Iron Age settlement is on the Ladeira Mountains.
