If you are looking for relaxation in an extraordinarily beautiful and mountainous setting, then consider Vieira do Minho. Located about 19 km north of Póvoa de Lanhoso in the Peneda-Gerês National Park, it is crossed by the River Cávado which provides opportunities for water sports. The town is dominated by the Serra da Cabreira and the area also benefits from the lakes formed by the Caniçada and Ermal dams. There are a number of ancient small villages such as Rossas, some 12 km southwest of Vieira do Minho, which has an interesting pillory and windmills on the banks of the River Ave.
