Vidigueira is a small town associated with the navigator Vasco da Gama. He was created Earl of Vidigueira by King Manuel I. The Misericórdia church is worth visiting, as is the Ermida de Santa Clara just north of the town, the Jardim Vasco da Gama with its statue commemorating the great explorer and the Ermida de Sao Pedro to the east of town. The local Wine Cooperative, which takes part in the Alentejo Wine Route, is open for visits and wine tasting.
