Most of the attractions in Valença do Minho are located inside the fortress. In the Praça de São Teótonio are the Casa do Eirado with its crenellated roof, gothic window dating from 1448 and the 18th century Casa do Poço with fine wrought-iron balconies. Other churches worth visiting are the 13th century Igreja de Santa Maria dos Anjos, the Capela de São Sebastião and the Igreja Matriz, founded by King Joao I around 1400. Other items of interest are the Roman milestone from the 1st century AD, the statue of São Teotónio, and the cannons on the north wall.
