The Tuna Fishing Museum celebrates the history of Tavira’s fishing industry. Tuna fishing in this area dates back as far as 1734. The museum is dedicated to the history of the industry, with models and displays showing the equipment used in former times and the difficulties of life in days gone by. Also on display are models of boats, paintings and photographs, as well as an educational video. If you are travelling in the spring, you should visit the saltpans nearby, which become inhabited by flamingos during this season. The museum is in the same area as the Rato Forte.
