Construction commenced on the Town Hall in 1754, but the building was only finally completed in 1865. It is not only a landmark of Braga, but also has one of the most interesting Baroque facades in Portugal. It is another of the buildings designed by André Soares, whose work was so influential in Braga. Note the elaborate decorative treatment to the windows and the front entrance, above which is a statue of Our Lady of Liberation ( Nossa Senhora do Livramento). There is a lovely Baroque fountain in the Square with water spouting from a pelican and bronze cupids.
