Built between 1754 and 1756, this imposing baroque-style Clerigos bell tower stands 75.6 metres high, over six floors. The 225 steps of the spiral staircase reward the visitor with the most spectacular views of Porto and the Douro River. Designed by the Italian architect Nicolai Nasoni for the Brotherhood of the Clerics, an order he later joined, it can be seen from many points of the city and is one of its most characteristic symbols.
