Whilst the Torreira Beach (see separate entry), is the principal attraction in the Murtosa area, there are other features worthy of attention. Murtosa is reached via the Varela Bridge over the Ria de Aveiro, its parish church is of interest, as is the Ethnographic museum which has a collection of items used in the traditional fishing and seaweed harvesting industries and also furniture. Other local attractions are the Monte Branco beach, the chapel of St Simon in Bunheiro and the chapel of Torreira’s patron saint, St. Paio. Local handicrafts include willow mats, painted yokes, miniature boats and dried rush products.
