Torre de Moncorvo was granted setlement charters in 1128 and 1140 by Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal. These confirmed privileges previously granted after the Christian Reconquest. In addition to the maze of medieval streets, there are still some ruined walls and the curious Our Lady of Remedies Arch remaining from the castle. The town is close to the Serra do Reboredo and the best time to visit is at the end of winter, when there is a handicraft fair and the "Amendoeiras em Flor" (Almond-trees in Blossom) festival takes place. The Pocinho Dam lies to the southwest.
