Cosine de Médicis, more than 300 years ago, called the Royal Park of Vila Viçosa a famous and delightful place. This vast tract of land between the town and the ancient royal road is still a magnificent hunting park. It was originally under the privilege of the Lords of Braganza and King Carlos. With its fifteenth century stately house, its three chapels, five gates, its brooks and fountains, the Royal Park deserves a visit. Walks are organised by the local tourist office to enjoy the pleasures and to rest at the Marco da Lua, meeting point of the hunters in days gone by.
