The Cork Museum housed within the Fábrica do Inglês (the English Factory) at Silves was awarded the title of the best European industrial museum in 2001. The area’s name is derived from English ownership between 1944 and 1962. The space is divided into thematic areas: the Processing Plant, Metalwork Workshop, Machine Room, Pressing Room and Blacksmith’s Forge where the machinery was repaired. It is still possible to see some factory products and a collection of different types of weighing scales. The factory complex has been converted into a comprehensive and extremely attractive leisure and cultural amenity.
