The Archaeology Museum was inaugurated in May 1999. It is housed in several rooms on the ground floor of the Castle. This is a most remarkable collection of archaeological pieces from different periods. Distinction is given to the Roman pieces found in the region, the Alentejo being a wonderful source of Roman finds, and to the collections gathered by King Luis I. The museum, as with many others in Vila Viçosa, is under the care of the House of Braganza Foundation.
