Classified as a National Monument since 1910, the Terenas Palace Tower dates originally from the 14th century and was built on the orders of Pedro Sem, chancellor, from 1336-1341, to King Afonso IV (1325-1357). In spite of many modifications over the centuries, the tower retains its medieval external appearance, the alterations having been mainly internal. For a long time it was the property of the Brandão family who incorporated it into the Terenas Palace. In 1986 the building was restored for residential purposes under a project supervised by the architect Abrunhosa de Brito.
