The museum is located in a house built in 1895 for use as a residence and sculptor’s studio. Texeira Lopes (1866-1942), a central figure in the important artistic and intellectual set that lived in Gaia at the end of the 19th century, was a disciple of António Soares dos Reis. His masterpiece is ‘A Inglesa’ an enigmatic portrait of an Englishwoman. The Diogo de Macedo Gallery is part of the museum and a wide range of valuable art by many Portuguese artists, including paintings and sculpture, is on display, as well as plaster models by Texeira Lopes.
