The municipality of Ribeira Grande is the only place in Europe where you can find tea factories. The tea leaves are cultivated without the use of fungicides and pesticides. The oldest factory, "A Gorreana", has machinery that is over a hundred years old still in use. All visitors are invited to taste the different types of tea and to explore the factory and learn about the production of tea. The most recent factory produces the Porto Formoso tea and has a museum. Both factories are worth visiting and are situated on the regional road that connects Ribeira Grande to Nordeste.
