Construction of this palace started in 1842 on the site of the old St Francis convent. It took three generations to complete. Built in neoclassical style, it is one of Porto’s most visited tourist attractions and is a national monument. It was more recently classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The palace is renowned for its Arabian Hall which is modelled on the Alhambra Palace in Granada. The Hall of Nations and the rich sculptures, stuccoes, floors and paintings are also of great interest.
