Although construction of the parish church of St Peter’s was planned in 1590 for completion in 1596, continual delays due to alterations and additions, led to the final completion only being achieved in the 18th century. Inside, the walls are almost entirely covered by 17th century blue and white azulejo tiles and the decoration is extremely rich throughout. If you go further up the Calçada de Santa Clara, so that you can look back and down on to the church tower, you will see its colourful tiling capped with a weather vane.
