Located on the Passeio 25 de Abril facing the river, the square 14th century Torre de São Paulo was incorporated in the defensive walls of the town and owes its name to the statue of St Paul in a niche. On the façade to the Rua do Postigo, close to pavement level, is a Gothic inscription recording the water level reached during a major river flood. On the river side there is an azulejo tile panel by Jorge Colaço, depicting an imaginary scene from the life of King Afonso Henriques in Cabração.
