Southeast of Casével, close to the Gregórios hills, lies the small Hermitage de São Miguel, which was built on the site of an ancient temple. Once a place of pilgrimage, it includes lodgings for travellers and pilgrims. Inside, the main chapel is framed by a pointed arch. Queen Dona Maria I ordered that the walls should be lined with coloured azuelo tiles, an extravagant decoration that contrasts sharply with the humble white-washed façade. The 18th century Fonte Santa (Holy Fountain), about two miles away, is also worthy of visiting.
