The original Romanesque building on this site, which is situated in the old Historic Quarter, probably dated from the second half of the 12th century. It was replaced during the reign of King Dinis (1279-1325) by a Gothic church which was destroyed by the great earthquake of 1755 and later rebuilt. Of particular interest are three paintings on wood from the 16th century, attributed to the artist known as the Master of São Quintino, entitled ‘Saint Martin and the Beggar’, ‘Saint Anthony ‘ and ‘Saint Peter’.
