This Romanesque style church is thought to date from the 12th century and to be the oldest in Porto. It was built on the site where Theodomir, king of the Suivi, was converted to Christianity by St Martin in the 6th or 7th century. The church was restored in the 1930s bringing it closer to its original medieval state. It is unique in the fact that it is the only Romanesque single nave, stone-roofed, church in Portugal, which explains the large external buttresses.
