There was a Roman camp located in Soure 20 km north of Pombal and the museum has a Roman milestone marker and sarcophagus, amongst other items. Attractions in the town include the Manueline-style town hall, the 15th century Igreja Matriz, the Misericórdia Church, the Várzea Park and fine 19th century manor houses. The town of Vila Nova de Anços, 7 km to the north, features the palace of the Dukes of Cadaval, the ruins of the 15th century parish church, a Manueline pillory, and a 17th century stone cross. A little further north is the important Paúl da Madriz bird life sanctuary.
