Located approximately 26 km east of Arcos de Valdevez and inside the Peneda-Geres National Park, the village of Soajo has two outstanding attractions. The unusual pillory in the central square was declared a National Monument in 1910; it has a welcoming anthropomorphic face, with a representation of a tricorne hat. On the outskirts of the village there is a communal threshing terrace which has 24 tomb-like raised espigueiros used for grain storage. These date from the 18th and 19th centuries and some are still in use. Slatted for ventilation, they have crosses for divine protection.
