The original São Vicente Church dates from the 13th century but was remodelled, with the addition of much lavish gilt and tile work, in the 17th century. It is here, in 1354, that the secret wedding of Dom Pedro and Inês de Castro (later murdered) is said to have taken place. Inside the church, to the right of the main Renaissance door, is an azulejo panel depicting General Sepúlveda in 1809, rousing the citizens of Brangança to rise up and free themselves from Napoleonic occupation.
