Also known as São Pedro das Águias, the small São Pedro Velho Church is about 8 km southwest of Tabuaço, near the Quinta do Convento and the ‘new’ monastery (see separate entry). It overlooks the Távora River and is located in beautiful but rugged scenery and was the site of a primitive hermitage. The Romanesque church was restored in the 20th century and has a number of interesting features. The doors on the north and west elevations have decorated archivolts supported by wild animals and the modillions to the façade are decorated with human figures and animals.
