Located in isolation and beautiful countryside, about 3 km east of Vila Praia de Âncora, is the 13th century chapel of São Pedro de Varais. Built in the regional style, this late Romanesque building was linked with various monasteries over the ages; it was also the parish church of Vile and Azevedo until 1640-41. Interior features include the remains of 15th/16th century frescos in the chancel and an open 14th century tomb built into a wall of the nave.
