Overlooking the Vizela valley at Roriz, about 15 km east of Santo Tirso, is the impressive Romanesque church of São Pedro. Although you can see the engraved date of 1228 in the porch, it is thought that this church may have been built on the site of an earlier church, dating back as far as the 8th century. Notable features are the rose window over the portal, a separate and attractive bell tower and the ruins of the monastic cloister. São Pedro de Roriz Church was classified as a National Monument in 1910.
