The São Pedro College is situated next to the Porta Férrea, with its main façade facing on to the Coimbra University campus. Although a sober 18th century sober Mannerist style building, it has a richly decorated Baroque entrance dating from 1713. During the 16th century it was the site of apartments for the children of King Manuel I and the building only became an integrated part of the university in 1834. From 1855 part of the building was reserved for royal visits and later was used as the residence for University rectors.
