Construction of the Baroque style St Peter’s Church, which is located north of the city centre, commenced in 1528 on the orders of Pedro de Castro, the Abbot of Mouçós, who is buried inside. It was restored and modified in the 18th century. The church has an attractive façade, but the real highlights lie inside this single nave church. You will find rare 17th century azulejo tiled panels, painted panels, carved and gilded coffered ceilings and altars also carved in rich gold leaf.
