Lourosa is located about 12 km south west of Oliveira do Hospital, its well known 10th century pre-Romanesque mother church of São Pedro is one of the oldest in Portugal. Founded in 912, according to an inscription, by Ordoño II King of Galicia and later also Leon, it is in the form of a basilica with three aisles separated by ten great Roman arches. The belfry had to be relocated as it was found to be on top of a Roman cemetery, now excavated. The porch and windows are Visigothic.
