The São Pedro Church was built in the 17th century on the site of the former St Martin Chapel; the façade however dates from 1725. The richly decorated interior illustrates the intricate gilded carved woodwork known as talha dourada. There are many other fine features which include 17th century blue and yellow azulejo tiling, 18th century paintings and images of the Holy Family at the altar. The wooden ceiling to the vestry dates from 1694 and the 18th century paintings represent Christ and the Disciples. The organ is 18th century and built by the Spaniard Francisco Solha.
