São Martinho das Amoreiras is a pretty Alentejo town. Quiet and peaceful, it is worth visiting for its beautiful church. Nearby, on the road between São Martinho das Amoreiras and Corte Malhão, is the Pardieiro, an Iron Age necropolis. Discovered in 1971, excavation revealed eleven funereal monuments. These stone memorials, sometimes engraved and decorated, covered graves. The identification of the archaeological site came about following the discovery of a pillar with an inscription in the writing in the first Peninsular Iron Age language, which is now part of the Beja Regional Museum collection.
