São Francisco da Serra is a typical Alentejan village about fifteen kilometres northeast of Santiago do Cacem. The drive through the beautiful Alentejo countryside is reason enough to make the trip, but the reward at the end makes it even more worthwhile. São Francisco da Serra is renowned for its magnificent chimneys which top the whitewashed houses. The parish church is very pretty, especially the interior with its tiled panels and statuary and the ruins of Nossa Senhora do Livramento are worth a visit.
