The São Francisco Convent Church is the only Gothic church in Porto and one of the town’s few remaining medieval buildings. Built in the late 14th and early 15th centuries, the Chapel of the Baptism of Christ was added in the 16th century and the new main portal the following century. The Baroque interior of the church is one the most beautiful examples in Portugal with its magnificent gilt wood carving. The Gothic rose window to the façade is also noteworthy.
