The Parque Natural da Serra de São Mamede is a protected area with five pedestrian trails. It is possible to observe rare birds of prey such as the vulture, kite or Bonelli eagle - the symbol of the Park. The highest point in the Serra de São Mamede, at 1,025m above sea level, is south of the River Tagus. In the northern section of the Park oak and chestnut trees predominate. To the south, traditional cork oak and holm oak groves are found. Within the park are vestiges of human presence from various historical periods.
