The Carmelite Sanctuary of Senhora do Viso is located close to both Vinhos and Fontes, about 20 km northwest of Peso da Régua. It is said that the sanctuary was the first parish church of Fontes, a settlement which was established by the Knights Order of Malta. King Sancho I (1185-1211) granted Fontes its first royal charter and this was subsequently confirmed by succeeding monarchs. The sanctuary contains azulejo tile panels and several baroque style altars. Pilgrimage takes place on the first Sunday in September.
