Sao Sebastiao is an old and characteristic town that received its charter in 1503. It has a picturesque Holy Ghost, with some interesting statuary. It is located in the south-eastern part of the island of Terceira and is connected by a road linking Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória. In 1836, Francisco Ferreira Drummond fought against the idea that would dissolve the old municipality into Angra do Heroísmo. On April 1, 1870, São Sebastião became part of Angra do Heroísmo and changed its name to Vila de São Sebastião.
