The Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Cola in Ourique celebrates the birth of Our Lady who enjoys major popular devotion in the Alentejo. The original church was erected in the site in the 14th century, but the present structure dates from the 17th century. The interior houses a 17th century gilded carved wood statue, which replaced the primitive statue which previously stood in the old church. The Sanctuary is included within the archaeological complex of Castro da Cola. Every year, during the month of May, there are various religious festivities.
