Located approximately 30 km northeast of Porto, beside the River Ave, the town of Santo Tirso is a major textile centre. In addition to the attractions separately listed, there is the 1930s neo-Romantic style Nossa Senhora da Assunção Carmelite Sanctuary at Monte Córdova, about 9 km to the southeast. Near to this, in the village of Paços de Ferreira, you will find an unusual Romanesque church with a separate tower. To the west, on the road to Lousado, the Lagoncinha Bridge over the River Ave is an interesting example of medieval architecture. Santo Tirso is also known for its pottery.
